The Importance of Website Maintenance

Why is website maintenance important? What is the purpose of updating your website? How does keeping your website up-to-date help increase sales? These are a few of many questions that I receive from business executives. In this article you will learn about some of the benefits of website maintenance.

To start, I have listed a few reasons of why it is important to keep your company website up-to-date:
  • Save Time - Save yourself, or your sales representatives, time from having to re-explain things over and over again. If you have new products/services or specials it is important to display them on your website in a consistent place so people continue to come back to your website with confidence that your website will have up-to-date information and so they do not have to go through the hassle of calling or emailing.
  • Boost Search Engine Results - By updating the information on your website and archiving old information, search engines such as Yahoo and Google, will pick up on this type of activity and view your website as a better choice for people searching for products and services that you sell.
  • Increase Interaction - By developing consistent methods (Affiliate Marketing, Email Marketing, Link Partnerships, etc.) to drive current and potential clients back to your website to view updated information, you will develop habits from your current and potential clients. This consistency is something that you need to review closely through your website statistics to find out the effectiveness of these methods.
These are just a few reasons to why you want to develop a maintenance strategy to turn your website from an informational source into a tool. The other key aspect is choosing an established website company that specializes in website maintenance and is fit to understand and handle requests you may have and someone who understands your industry. To develop a successful relationship you need to find out how well they communicate and how fast they can turnover minor and major tasks. I have listed a few other qualities to look for when choosing a company to handle your website maintenance:
  • Easy to access
  • Quick Response time
  • Attention to detail
  • Attention to overall strategy or purpose of your website
  • Commitment to documenting hours needed to complete work
Hopefully I have provided information that will help guide you in your process to develop an online marketing strategy. If you would like to discuss further or on any other topic, please don't hesitate to call,

Increase Sales Through Interaction on the Web

How many "informational newsletters" do you receive on a weekly basis? Out of those, how many do you really pay close attention to? How many websites do you go to where there is just information and pictures and it seems to take forever to go through all of the material?

The reality is that to review everything on every website or everything on every email could possibly consume your entire day therefore you usually only read the emails or review the websites that accomplish their points faster. If this is true with you, it sure is true with your potential clients. 9 out of 10 people that I talk to say that they have a low tolerance for websites or emails that don't reveal the main points fast. Most likely they will click over to another site or just plain ignore an email that is too lengthy to read and does not get to the point.

My tip to you is that if your company has a lot to offer and you feel it maybe time consuming to explain everything your company does, here are couple of solutions to consider:

  1. Online Video - Due to advancements in internet technology, a short 30 sec. - 1 min. video is becomming one of the most popular ways to get your point across. Remember, a picture is worth 1000 words.
  2. Email Tips - Everybody wants to become educated on something that is going to benefit them. Make it a habit to send your potential clients a small 1 sentence educational tip through email. Always remember to include a website link or a phone number in case they would like to learn more. People will appreciate that you are respecting their time by only giving them a small bit of information.
  3. More Links - Creating more appropriate links to specific content that you would like your targeted website visitor to read increases the likelihood that visitors will click to the appropriate content. Even though it may seem redundent, it's saving them time while increasing the likelihood of a sales conversion.
  4. Proper Contact Form Placement - If there is an area on your website that is longer than a few paragraphs, before they ready further, offer your visitor the opportunity to fill out an online form that submits directly to you so you can contact them directly to explain in further detail. Most people feel more at ease to talk to someone directly instead of trusting something they see on screen. You will find that you will receive more leads and convert more sales by doing this.

Develop a Database and Educate to Increase Sales

Do you have those hundreds or thousands of business cards just sitting around your office collecting dust? Are you involved in networking groups where the purpose is to showcase your business to other like-minded individuals? Do you ever offer, in traditional advertisements (postcards, radio, etc.) your potential customers a frequent way to educate themselves further about products/services in your industry? Whether you answered YES or NO to any of these, it will be a profitable decision to read further.

Most of all sales is about: EDUCATION. If people are not educated in what you sell you will not maximize your revenues. People buy when they feel confident in themselves and confident in the company or individual providing products/services to them. The problem with most businesses is that they stagnate and feel as if they do not need to worry about this because "this is the same way they have done it all along and they do not want to change." The fact is the economy is slowing and over 80% of all people use the internet for information. With rising gas prices and the price of everything else rising along with the dollar losing its value, you need to educate consumers on how you can save them time, make them money, provide them convenience and peace of mind. This will strengthen the economy and bring more opportunity for increasing sales for your business.

Now think of those business cards you have done nothing with. Think of the people in your networking group. Think of who is exposed to your traditional advertisements. These people need continued education on how you can help them. The main peace of advice to take with you is to think of these people, populate their information into an excel database or some other kind of document. Make it a point to send them an informational tip each week to help them understand how what you do can help them. If you have read this far we have accomplished our goal in educating you on something we do. Consider this when marketing to your own potential client.
